Enrolling in the CA Foundation course is the first step in becoming a chartered accountant (CA). The CA Foundation exams are held three times a year in January, May, and September as part of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India's (ICAI) New Scheme of Education and Training.
Knowing the difference between course registration and exam form submission is crucial if you want to take the CA Foundation January 2027 exam. Subject to ICAI's relevant eligibility requirements, students who miss the September 1 registration deadline for January 2027 will typically be eligible for the subsequent Foundation exam. It is not a declaration that the endeavor is "pushed back by four full months," but rather a minimum four-month registration time.
Everything you need to register for the January 2027 session is included in this thorough guide, including confirmed deadlines, mandatory study period guidelines, registration costs, necessary paperwork, typical mistakes to avoid, and what to do immediately after registering.
Between the date of enrollment with the Board of Studies (BoS) and the first day of the exam month, ICAI requires a rigorous 4-month study time.
Important Note: You are not automatically registered for the January 2027 exam if you register for the CA Foundation course through the ICAI SSP site. When ICAI opens the test window in November 2026, you will need to independently complete the test Application Form.
Depending on their present academic standing, ICAI permits students to register via both provisional and normal routes:
