What is CA Intermediate?

CA Intermediate is the second level of the CA course conducted by ICAI. After clearing CA Foundation, students enter this stage to learn the core concepts of Accounting, Taxation, and Auditing. This level prepares you for your practical training, also known as articleship.

CA Intermediate New Syllabus (6 Papers)

According to the new ICAI scheme, there are now only 6 papers in CA Inter, divided into two groups:

Group 1 Subjects

  1. Advanced Accounting (100 Marks) – Focuses on Accounting Standards (AS) and financial statements.
  2. Corporate and Other Laws (100 Marks) – Covers Company Law and other business laws.
  3. Taxation (100 Marks) – Split into Income Tax (50 Marks) and GST (50 Marks).

Group 2 Subjects

  1. Cost and Management Accounting (100 Marks) – Focuses on cost calculation and management techniques.
  2. Auditing and Ethics (100 Marks) – All about checking accounts and professional behavior.
  3. FM & SM (100 Marks) – Financial Management (50 Marks) and Strategic Management (50 Marks).

Exam Pattern & Passing Marks

To clear CA Intermediate, you need to keep two things in mind

  • Subject-wise: You must score at least 40% marks in every individual paper.
  • Aggregate: You must score a total of 50% marks in a group to pass.

Good News: There is no negative marking in the objective (MCQ) part of the exam, which covers 30% of each paper!

  • Previous Year Questions (PYQs)

Pro-Tips for CA Inter Students

  • Make Your Own Notes: Handwritten notes are much better than any printed book during the last day of exams.
  • Don't Ignore AS: In Advanced Accounting, Accounting Standards carry a lot of weightage. Master them!
  • Write and Practice: Don't just read the answers. Write them down to improve your speed and presentation.
  • Stay Consistent: It is okay to study for 6-8 hours, but do it every single day.

Career After CA Inter: Articleship

Once you clear both groups of CA Intermediate, you can start your CA Articleship. You can join top firms like PwC or other reputed firms to get practical experience. This is the time when you transform from a student to a professional.

Conclusion

CA Intermediate is a journey that requires hard work and the right guidance. Don't take too much stress; just follow a plan and stay positive. You are a champion, and you can definitely clear this exam in your first attempt!
