CA Intermediate September 2026 Exam Pattern

The CA Intermediate September 2026 exam consists of both descriptive and objective questions.

  • Each paper has 70 marks for descriptive questions and 30 marks for multiple-choice questions.
  • MCQs are required.
  • Incorrect answers to multiple-choice questions are not penalized.
  • There are two sections in Papers 3 (Taxation) and 6 (Financial Management & Strategic Management).

Applying for the CA Intermediate September 2026 exam is done entirely online using the ICAI Self Service Portal (SSP).

About 14 days before to the start of the exam, ICAI posts admission cards online.
The ICAI e-services portal allows you to download the admission card. ICAI does not send out physical admit cards.

Passing Criteria for CA Intermediate September 2026 Exam

You must meet the following requirements in order to pass the CA Intermediate exam:

  • Obtain a minimum of 40% on each paper.
  • Get at least 50% of the possible points in the corresponding group or unit.

In order to pass both groups simultaneously, you must:

  • Each paper receives 40% of the possible points.
  • 50% of total points, if appropriate, in accordance with ICAI regulations.

If you receive 70% or more on the test in a single sitting, you can also earn a distinction.

Exemption Rules for CA Intermediate September 2026 Exam

Students who receive 60% or higher on a specific paper but fail the entire group or unit are eligible for exemption privileges from ICAI.

Important details about exemptions include:

  • For the next three imminent exams, the exemption is still in effect.
  • To pass the group, you must receive the necessary grades on the remaining papers.
  • After meeting ICAI requirements, a permanent exemption option becomes available.
  • By filing the necessary affidavit within the allotted period, you can give up an exemption.
